About Sal's Classic Deli
A family-run neighborhood deli with roots that go back nearly four decades.
Our Story
In 1987, Sal Benedetto left his job at a Manhattan deli, packed up his knives, and opened a tiny sandwich shop on Evergreen Terrace in Maplewood, New Jersey. The idea was simple: serve honest food made from quality ingredients, treat every customer like a neighbor, and never cut corners — only cold cuts.
Nearly four decades later, the shop has grown, but the philosophy hasn't changed. Sal's Classic Deli is still family-owned, still sourcing from the same local bakeries and farms, and still slicing everything fresh to order.
What Makes Us Different
- In-house curing: We cure our own corned beef, pastrami, and capicola on-site using traditional methods.
- Local bread, daily: Every roll and loaf is delivered fresh each morning from Maplewood Bakehouse.
- Sliced to order: Nothing sits pre-sliced in a tray. Every sandwich is built from the block when you order it.
- Community first: We sponsor Little League teams, host fundraiser nights, and donate to the local food bank every week.
